During the latest Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meeting on February 15th, and as projected in Dcode EFC’s ‘Egypt’s Economic Outlook’ reports, published in July and December 2017, the CBE lowered its key interest rates by 100 basis points. The overnight deposit and lending rate now stand at 17.75% and 18.75%, respectively, while the discount rate now stands at 18.25%. In this brief alert, we present the main drivers behind such move, and the expected implications thereof.
